Design Materials
Sterling Silver
My sterling silver pieces are made with high quality 925 sterling, which is 92.5% pure silver mixed with 7.5% other metals, typically copper, to increase its strength and durability. I love working with silver due to its malleability and reflective properties; especially when hammered. But some designs require more rigidity than 925 silver can provide.
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is hypoallergenic and a great alternative to sterling silver for some of my designs. It resists tarnishing and holds it shape without hardening or hammering. I like using stainless steel for heavier pieces when the chains need to be sturdier, as it keeps the pieces affordable.
Base Metal
Base metals are non-ferrous industrial metals including copper, aluminum, lead, nickel, tin and zinc. For jewelry purposes these pieces are often coated with sterling silver or gold to give them a high shine. I only use plated base metal chains for statement pieces that aren’t meant to be worn daily, as the plating can wear through over time. All new pieces use nickel free base metal. If I use found elements with unknown base metals I note it in the description.
